All of a sudden I cannot delete any old messages. Error reads "use inbox

If you don't see it at Start>Microsoft Office Tools>Inbox Repair Tool or
Start>Microsoft Office>Microsoft Office Tools>Inbox Repair Tool, then you can
find it at %CommonProgramFiles%\system\MSMAPI\1033\scanpst.exe for English
versions of Outlook 2003 or earlier or at %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft
Office\Office12\scanpst.exe for Outlook 2007.

In addition to the locations Brian has advised, you can also simply do a
file/folder search for scanpst.exe. When it's located, double-click it and
follow the instructions. It will require that you know where your PSTis
located AND that Outlook is closed when you do this.

I have 2007 Outlook and find what Brian is referring to, however it asks me
to enter the name of file I want to scan. I cannot find anything to scan or
run after clicking 'browse'.
Kathleen, following your advice gets me to the same place. I don't know how
to run this "scan".

Got it! I had to manually type in the file name, can't get to it using browse.

Use the advanced options to located hidden files and folders.
