I also cannot defrag comes up scan cancelled because an arror occured in file c:/documents and settings/local settings/temporary internet files/content.iesyn2l6b2l/ etc etc freezes up when online give me corrupt files and to run chkdsk utility. which i cannot find how to do. any help would be greatly appreciated.

To run chkdsk, double click on My Computer, right-click the appropriate
drive and then Properties>Tools>Error-checking.

Empty your Temporary Internet Files.
