Some names are reserved at times and can't be used. Others may be already
used- have you set explorer to view hidden and system files?

I've checked that already. I can see ALL system protected files!
My XP Home doesn't show this problem. They use the very same anti-virus &
Windows Defender bate 2 of same version. Could that be new Trojan?

You really need to read the virus/spyware writers websites to see if they
have any news, or go to a relevant newsgroup and ask.

Do you have permissions set the same on both machines?

Have you tried it? I created a folder called "sys" in my C: drive on windows
XP without any problem.

'sys', along with 'com1', 'com2', 'lpt1', etc., etc., is one of the
reserved system device driver names. That's why you cannot create
it.

Sys is not as reserved name. AUX, CON, NUL and PRN are reserved names. I
can create a folder named sys on my desktop.

Hope this helps. Let us know.

OK, you're right, 'sys' is not reserved. The reserved device names are
listed here:
