I cannot copy any playlists to a new disk because when
prompted to 'insert a blank disk into the CD drive' the
drive doesn't recognise the new disk and keeps prompting
to 'retry'. This has just started happening!
Any clues?

None whatsoever. Try a restore to an earlier date.

hi i had the same problem as you tryed every thing then i
took it to pc world where i bought it and they said it
was the optical lense it wasnt picking up i had to buy
another cd rw

Try using a CD lens cleaning disc to clean any dust off
the CD-RW laser. Also, try using another brand of media
as certain drives do not like certain balnk discs.
