Did something change recently about copy/cut & paste files?
These 3 methods don't work anymore when copying to a usb drive:
- right click - copy - right click - paste.
- CTRL + C & CTRL + V.
- Edit - Copy - Edit - Paste.
for example:
- i right click the file on the hard disk.
- i select Copy from the context menu.
- i right click the driver letter of the usb disk.
- for about 5 seconds, i see the hour-glass.
- i select Paste.
- nothing happens - the file is not copied - there was no error message.
The same happens with the 2 other methos (CTRL & Edit).
The only way to copy a file to an usb disk is:
Choose from the context menu "Copy To ...".
Then then select the USB disk.
if i wanted to move the file from the HD to the USB,
then i have to manually delete the file on the HD.
Formerly, i used those 4 methods all together.
Now i have to remember that a few methods don't work anymore.
It's annoying.
i checked that in Internet Explorer, Tools, Internet Options, Security, Misc
the option "Drag files etc" is checked.
it does not matter if the files are small or large.
So the 4 GB file limit size of FAT32 is not the cause.
Besides, the usb disk is NTFS formatted.
Yes, i frequently use RDC.
But it will not matter of i check or uncheck the clipboard.
i see this behaviour on other computers here as well.
My machine is a Windows XP Professional SP2.
There is a second HD in my computer,
from which i can boot Vista Business SP1.
Here i can choose the method "Copy To ...",
*and also* Edit (from the menu in Explorer).
But also not
CTRL + C
right clicking
i tried with all kinds of usb sticks and drives,
1 GB,
4 GB
160 GB.
it does not matter.
This problem began a few months ago.
Maybe because of an update of Windows...?
Or am i overlooking a trivial thing?
i googled around a lot since then,
but cannot find a solution,
or a reason.
if anyone could shedd a light on this,
i would be very grateful.
Pierre.
