After having to restore my computer 'to factory settings' using the recovery
CD, I am now trying to reinstall Windows XP service pack 2. I downloaded it
via microsoft update but when I try to install it and setup is running
'Updating Your System' and is installing files a Copy Error occurs.
"Setup cannot copy the file msdxm.ocx.
Ensure that the location specified below is correct, or change it and insert
'Windows XP Source Files" in the drive you specify."
The file path shown is
(c:\windows\softwaredistribution\download\16b2c96a0c41f4dfdb4d3cc228a4f819)
and the file msdxm.ocx is in this folder.
When I click cancel it asks whether to continue without copying the file. I
click yes and after some time a message says something like: I/O device
error, didn't manage to copy that exactly.
Error code given is: 0x8007045D
In the error code window there is a link to Microsoft Online Assisted
Support saying 'no-cost for issues related to getting updates' but when I
follow the link I only end up at a site where I have to pay even for sending
a e-mail asking for support!
I have found a similar post on this site but the answers provided do not work.
Can anyone help me resolve this problem? Thanks.
