XP Home SP2. I have two identical DVD writers (E: & F. When I
first got the PC, I could use Explorer/My Computer to copy files
to CD.

Some time ago I installed Nero and can successfully write to CDs
or DVDs using either drive.

However, I've now noticed that I can no longer copy files to CD
using Explorer/My Computer. As soon as I attempt to paste, I get
"E:\ is not accessible. Incorrect function.

Is that because Nero has "taken over" the CD writing operation or
could something else be amiss?

Thanks. The 'cure' mentioned there was"...going to the Drive
letter in Windows Explorer and right clicking on it. Go to
Properties; Click on Recording; Check "Enable CD recording on this
drive"".

Unfortunately, I don't have a "Recording" tab in my properties
for the CD drives.

Go to Start | Run | Services.msc | Ok. In the services console scroll to
IMAPI CD-Burning COM service. Start it and set the startup type to Manual.
Now check for the recording tab.

Thanks. I tried that but I still only have "General", "Autoplay",
"Hardware" & "Sharing" tabs. No "Recording" tab. ("Sharing" tab
disappears when I put a disc in the drive).

Attempts to access the drive or Copy/Paste to a blank CD generate
the "E:\ is not accessible. Incorrect function." message, whilst
attempts to Copy/Paste to a CD which already contains a file or
two generates "Cannot copy filename: Files on this CD-ROM drive
are read-only. you cannot copy or move files over to this CD-ROM
drive". (With no disk in the drive, Explorer sees the drive as
"DVD-RAM Drive").

However, both drives perform perfectly writing to CDs / DVDs using
Nero, which must rule out any mechanical issues. I suspect that
Nero may have "taken over" the rights to CD writing and I guess
the only way I'll prove that is to uninstall Nero and maybe
uninstall/reinstall the XP drivers (unless of course anybody with
Nero v 6.6 installed can tell me their XP copy/paste to CD
function works perfectly!!)

I recollect a previous thread with this issue. I think the OP fixed it by
running the autoplay repair fix but I'm not absolutely sure on that.

Thanks. I tried that but it made no difference. I think I'll
live with this minor irritation as Nero is working fine.
