In notepad, try save the file with ANSI encoding and then copy and paste to
webpages. See if it helps.

Good luck.

Not sure exactly what you're asking, but as a general rule you can copy
*from* Web pages (unless the owner happens to have disabled the function)
but not paste to them. Unless you happen to own the web site, in which case
you can do what you like with it.

No offense intended,

Nothing and no one can prevent text in an HTML-based web page to be copied
and pasted to another editor, unless they are incorporated into other forms,
such as an image or flash file.

However, word processing documents and web pages are known to contain hidden
codes (to retain formats and styles, for example), so one might experience
compatibility problem when trying to copy and paste text between different
editors or from/to a web page.

Judging by the sequence of C.B.'s posts, my guess is that C.B. composed the
first post using a word processor (or editor), and he had a problem trying
to copy and paste to a Web-based form (MS forum), but he could copy and
paste to Notepad.

I don't know the exact problem, but using ANSI encoding as suggested,
usually can eliminate compatibility issues associated with hidden codes, but
of course, removes formats and styles as well.

Just my two cents.

Thanks everyone. My problem is this. I had no problems copying and pasting
when I was using the Windows 7 Beta, Windows XP Home and Vista Ultimate
(prior to doing a custom install of Win 7). I recently removed Win 7 from my
system and did a custom install of my Vista Ultimate. All operating systems
are x86.

My problem is this. I can copy from a webpage and paste it into Notepad.
However, I can't copy from one webpage and paste it on the same webpage in a
different location or onto a different webpage. Copy and paste is enabled in
Internet Options and I have Java installed.

Hey everyone,

I did some more research and determined this is a bug in Firefox 3.5.7.
Copy and paste works perfectly in IE 8. I simply installed the old version
of Firefox 3.5.6. The problem was corrected. Secunia PSI brands Firefox
3.5.6 a category 4 threat but that's too bad. It seems Mozilla has no
interest in fixing this bug 3.5.7 even though I determined through my
research that customers have been complaining about it since 3.5.7 was
released.
I'll be more than happy to migrate back to IE 8 if Microsoft ever
decides to get the bugs out of it.

It happens sometime, and again, it's because those hidden codes have to be
interpreted by the browser (or editor), and it could be a bug as you
mentioned or poor programming or add-on, etc.

If it happens again, you may consider using Notepad (or other text editors)
to clean up all hidden codes by saving as ANSI encoding before pasting to
another web page, which is a common practice for web programmers.

Hope it helps and good luck.
