I cannot connect to the web from my 98 PC thru XP Pro network

I have managed to network my old 98 PC to my XP Pro and can happily share files, but I cannot get the Internet gateway to work between them. Is it something to do with connecting via AOL? I used the XP network wizzard to set them up and did get an error, something about a SubSpool server or something.

It is also very slow when printing from the 98 PC now.

And the XP PC seems to connect to the web without being asked to.
