I am running the Home edition of XP and use Verizon DSL as my ISP.
Internet Explorer and AOL software are working fine. However, if I
try to connect to MSN Messenger 6.0 or Windows Messenger 5.0, I get
the error:
"We were unable to sign you in to .NET Messenger Service, possibly
because of a problem with the service or with your internet
connection. Please make sure that you are connected to the Internet."
I can sign into my Hotmail account w/o a problem. I do not have a
firewall (I had but disabled it) or use a proxy server. I checked MS
knowledge base which recommends 1) Assuring that I can accept cookies,
2) Security setting is at Medium (I changed it to low to test), and 3)
Deleting temporary internet files. I also found an article (303807)
that suggested that a corrupted profile could be to blame, but I have
same prob when I log in w/ new profile. I even disabled my
'auto-detect' settings on browser. All to no avail.
Additionally, I get similar error messages when I try to connect to
AIM ("The AIM service cannot be reached") or Yahoo messenger ("The
connection to the Yahoo! Server cannot be completed at this time").
This is a new PC and the first time I've tried to connect to a chat
service w/ it.
I appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks!
Linda
