I'm guessing you are running Windows XP?
If you mean to say .mswmm file...that is only
the project file and is used by Movie Maker
when you wish to re-edit a project. This file
does not include the source files...movie
clips, pictures, music files, etc...it simply
records the path to the original files. If the
source files have been moved or deleted the
..mswmm file cannot reopen correctly and you
will see Red Xs.
If you right click the Red Xs you may be
able to browse to the location of the source
files and re-establish the path.
For burning DVDs you need to save the
project in a movie format...wmv, or .avi.
(Then you import the completed movie file
into your DVD Authoring software to burn
the DVD.
To save as a .wmv movie file...
Type...Ctrl+P to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next /
Tick...'Best Quality For My Computer'
Next/
Wait while the movie is saved /
Finish...
Also, you may find it useful to use

To save as an .avi movie file...
(and several other options)
Type...Ctrl+P to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next /
Show More Choices /
Other Settings /
Open the drop window and choose...DV-AVI /
Next /
Wait while the movie is saved /
Finish...
