I am trying to change the appearance of my mouse pointer. I go to
control panel, mouse and select a new pointer. I click on apply and OK
but my mouse pointer does not change. Can anyone help me?

Probably not really a hardware issue, but anyway:

What, exactly are you doing:
Control Panel -> Mouse ->Pointers

From the customise box, select the TYPE of mouse cursor you want to change
(You probably want 'Normal Select') Then Click the 'Browse..' button and
from the Browse dialog choose the ACTUAL cursor you want displayed for this
TYPE and click 'Open'
Then Click OK or Apply and you should have the new cursor active for that
type of pointer.

Well, on my system, the Mouse Properties dialog from control panel has 4
tabs.
The second of these is called 'Pointers'

On this Pointers tab there is a section called 'Scheme' that has a drop down
list box and a Save As.. button and a Delete button.

Below that there is a section called 'Customize:' that contains a scrollable
list of all the available TYPES of cursor, and a 'Use Default' and a
'Browse..' button

maybe your installation is different. Are you definatly running Windows2000?

Chris.

Not sure then. That should work...

If you like, post back here an exact click-by-click account of what you do
to change your mouse pointer (ignore what I described in my earlier post).
But if you are indeed doing exactly what I described then I guess somthing
on your system is either corrupted, or configured to stop you changing the
pointer...???

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Chris

Chris
I click on mouse, pointers, normal select in the customize window,
browse,
select arrow_il, open, apply and OK. I should then get a large black
arrow, but my small white default arrow remains.

Nope,

You got me there. If I do that, I get exactly what you expect (a nice big
black arrow).
Can't understand why yours won't change. Unless:
Somthing in your system is corrupted
or
Some user-profiles are somthing in your system are active and are stopping
you from changing it
or.
Somthing else (some other application??) is controlling the cursor...?
or
You don't have the necessary permissions to change it (but then it's only a
cursor for fs sake!).

Sorry, can't help.. :-(

Chris.
