Hi

When I highlight various documents in Windows Explorer I
no longer get the option to burn to disc

If I try to copy/move them to the relevant drive I get the
following error message '(drive letter):\ is not
accessible. Incorrect function'

I have had to download some free burning software, but I
am nervous about using this third party free-stuff

Please can someone let me know how I can get back the
option to burn to disc from Windows Explorer.

Thanks

Open Windows Explorer, select the burner drive, right click, select
Properties, go to the Recording tab and be sure "Enable CD recording on this
drive" is selected and click apply and ok.

Hi Michael

I have tried this just now and neither drive has a
recording tab.

My CD drive has General, Hardware and Autoplay whilst the
DVD burner has exactly the same plus Sharing

How can I get the tabs back

Thanks

If the CD drive is not a burner it wouldn't have such a tab. Windows XP has
no native support for DVD burning and requires third party software; most
such burners come with software.

Both drives are definitely burners. And the CD drive is
the one that came installed on the machine when I bought
it.

I can use third party software to burn to either drive and
can burn to CD Drive using Musicmatch Jukebox. I just
can't burn using Windows and it's really annoying for
burning photo's documents etc etc

If you are talking about dragging and dropping files or saving files
directly to CD, this function is not supported in XP. This requires some
form of packet writing which only comes with third party software. If you
are talking about CD mastering wherein you are creating an audio CD, not
simply a CD to which you save or drag and drop an audio or data file, that
is supported natively. Does that cover the issue or are you saying you
cannot create audio or mastered CDs using XP's native CD burning function?
