Cannot browse the LAN by host name

Hello

Context:

XP Pro SP1 everywhere

I have the following problem : from one particular PC (say
192.168.1.2) I cannot browse the LAN using host names. Using IP
addresses works just fine (ex run \\192.168.1.5 will open the explorer
window displaying the shared resources on that remote PC), so it has
nothing to do with the TCP/IP and further deeper network levels but
seems to be only related to the "name resolution". This particular PC
(192.168.1.2) will also not be visible from any other PC on the LAN
neighborhood. I checked that the "Browse computer" service is started
and running everywhere and that Netbios over TCPI/IP is also running
(actually the other machines have no problem at all and you can browse
the network just fine from any place except this damn one)

This is just crazy and it drives me nuts. Any suggestion will be
highly appreciated.

Chris

Is the built-in firewall active?

I have experienced that it's not very good at letting NetBIOS broadcasts
back in when the client does name resolution..

Hello

Get a packet sniffer like www.ethereal.com and see yourself whether the
replies to the broadcasts by a machine are coming or not.
