I rencently ran into a problem with my SCSI hard drive,
and now it continuously boots to a blue screen that
basically says there is a problem with the NTFS.sys file,
so it hangs during that stage of POST. I installed an
IDE Hard drive and installed XP on it, and I was going to
move the files from the SCSI drive to the IDE, however
the only way I was able to get my PC to recognize the IDE
as the primary boot drive was to disable the scsi
controller, therefore the scsi drive is inaccessible from
within XP. I attempted to create an NTFS boot disk so I
could see both drives in DOS and move the files over that
way, but no success there. I think the disk is
configured right, because I do not get any errors booting
with it, but it just says starting, and then it goes to
an A:\ prompt, and when I try to change to C: or D: it
says invalid drive specification. The only way I can see
my files in DOS in by using this NTFSDOS.exe file from
Winternals. I can see both drives and all my files, but
whenever I try to copy files in either direction it says
Access Denied.
Would it be possible to copy the NTFS.sys file from the
IDE drive to the correct location on the SCSI drive and
overwrite the one that is having problems? Do you think
that would allow the SCSI drive to boot up again? That
is what I attempted when I finally was able to see them
both in DOS, but it said access denied. Any suggestions
would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thx,
Phillip Lee
