Cannot add MS Office Apps to Quick Launch

I have just finished reloading MS XP Professional (SP 3 and IE7) and MS
Office 2003 (SP3). However, I find that I cannot add Office Apps (eg Word
2003) to the Quick Launch toolbar (which is present but currently only
contains a button for launching IE7).

I have tried adding a second Shortcut for Word 2003 to the Start/All
Programs list and then dragging the new entry ("Word 2003 (2)") to the
desktop and renaming it "Word 2003" . Finally I have dragged it to the Quick
Launch toolbar. At this point Windows tries to download "Microsoft Word
2003.link" which, if I accept the download, launches Word 2003 but does not
add a Word icon to the Quick Launch toolbar. (I took the foregoing procedure
from the MS web site.)

How can I add new applications to the Quick Launch toolbar?

If your Explorer is set to show 100% of content you can place any
shortcut directly in the profile's QuickLaunch folder at:

Documents & Settings\'Username'\Application Data\Microsoft\
Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

*By default Explorer is set to Hide - Protected, System and certain
file types ( extensions ). You can modify this from Folder Options,
View (TAB)

You don't need the "Second Shortcut"....

Just Left Click the Start Icon (executable)
for the app you want to add the Quick Launch
and Drag/Drop it on the appropriate section
of the Windows Taskbar.

Names are not an issue on the Quick Launch
section of Windows Taskbar because they are
not visible anyway.

Maybe this article will be useful:

Suggestion, Right click the task bar, uncheck, Lock the taskbar.
Good Luck!
