Instead of the computer name did you try putting the IP address?

That is not surprising; it is not possible for IE to tell if the http:// URL
is a local domain, or external.

Try the local path (eg: c:\...)

i tried http:\\10.208.18.16\alanLorimer\hello.htm from another PC i was
prompted dail-up connection dialog box too.
I have web shared the folder C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ALANLORIMER as AlanLorimer
in the host PC.
I then tried to share the folder as AlanLorimer, i got the same dial-up
connection dialog box also.

i shared the folder C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ALANLORIMER at host PC. i then typed
\\AlanLorimer\Alanlorimer\hello.htm in another PC, i can access the web page.
But the test objective is to allow users accessing website hosted in host PC,
so that they will type website address instead of a folder path. Is it
possible to do that? Thanks
