I have a web client running Win XP home SP1. A few months ago we changed
web-hosting services. After the domain was released from the original service
and the new service had taken over, the PC keeps attempting to access the
site by way of the original hosting service. Naturally this only returns a
"page not found error". The site is http://www.clarity-press.com (so you can
see it IS working).

We have done all the ususal stuff: Deleted .tmp files, cookies, etc. We have
run the Network Setup Wizard and used the Repair option as well as manually
trying the various network DOS commnads. All to no avail! This PC steadfastly
refuses to find this site. Ping returns the correct IP. There are 2 other
computers on this network which can reach the site.

Any clues as to what else to delete or update to make this machine stop
trying to resolve this name with the wrong IP?

Home makes it hard. Pro has the nslookup command. Perhaps they put a hard coded entry into the HOSTS file.

Also Netdiag is available on the CD in support tools. Netsh also does diagnostics (it also does the diags in Help and Support).

Thanks for the quick reply David!

The user is not savy enough to mung the HOST file and if outside software
was messing around I would think the other computers (one an XP laptop, one a
Mac) would have their host files messed with also. This simply started
happening right after the old hosting service released the domain. She did
nothing to the computer.

I'll see if I can get them to install Netdiag & Netsh.
