Whenever I try and run defrag I get the following "Windows
cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may
not have appropriate permission to access the item." This
occurs when I try ann run anything from the admin tools
control panel. If I try and run msconfig no problem but
when I try and run services.msc I get the same error
message. If I try run cmd I also get the same message. I
have scanned registry settings, checked permissions etc....
still no resolution. Any insights would be appreciated.
Cheers

ello Carey --- thank you for your suggestion. I had tried
all of the tweaks at Kelly's site, including the cmd
Snap-In before my post. Unfortunately none of them have
worked to resolve the problem. This is a wierd one. Let me
expand on a couple of additional points that I should have
made. Also from the Systems Tools I can run restore,
cleanmgr but not defrag. All of the modules including
defrag are in the proper directory and exist. Any further
thoughts would be appreciated.
Cheers
