I accidently created a private appointment in another user's calendar
shared to me in Outlook. Now when I try to delete the appointment, I get a
message saying I cannot access it, even though I originally created it. Is
there a workaround that will allow me to delete this appointment?

Sure. Use a Steno pad for your appointments. Dont use a PC.
