Cannot access only one web site

I have XP Home and IE 7. All of a sudden one important web site always
defaults to "res//ieframe.dll" with the message HTTP 500 Error and I cannot
get on the original site. This just started several days ago and before I
had no problems with it. It happens only on my laptop as I can access the
site from my PC. I can access every site without a problem and this is a
site on my trusted list. I have found some software on the web that says it
can fix it but.. a little skeptical.

Any ideas how to fix?

[x-post to IE General]

And the website is...?

=> Does this behavior persist if you start IE7 in No Add-ons mode? To start
IE7 in No Add-ons mode:

1. Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without Add-ons;

2. Start > (All) Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer
(No add-ons).

Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer’s (No Add-ons) Mode:

=> Does the problem persist if you Reset IE7 Settings (RIES)?

=> Those with IE7-specific questions or comments are asked to post to and
seek support in this newsgroup: microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

In your newsreader:

hi, i have the same problem. i wanted to access www.facebook.com yesterday,
but was redirected to http:/// instead.
(res://ieframe.dll/syntax.htm#http:///)

other websites are fine, except this. as long as the website has the word
facebook, it doesn't work. i tried resetting the IE settings, and the first
time it did work, but the problem persists and now even resetting the browser
settings doesnt work anymore.

can someone pls tell me wad else i can do?

thanks,
angela

Please begin a new thread about /your/problem, stating both your Windows and
IE versions, angela. Thanks.

According to telnet you do get redirected.
So try anticipating the redirection and going there first?

<telnet>
Location: http://www.facebook.com/common/browser.php
</telnet>

That could be an Address bar hijacker at work. Are you entering a full URL?
I.e., including protocol prefix? Otherwise disable search from the Address bar
(in Options, Advanced tab, Search... section)

Good luck

you could be affected by malware. Do a check for that on your system.
