Hello all,

I have 4 pcs in a network (workgroup). 2 xp pro and 2 xp home (wired
and wireless). All can access the internet fine through access point.

The issue is that only one of the xp pro systems cannot be accessed.
All can ping this machine but cannot access it. The xp machine can
access and ping all of the pcs on the network. This is what i have
tried so far:

- set netbios to "enabled"
- disabled all firewalls
- set "restrictanonymous" in the registry to 0
- run the networking wizard again

all without any luck.

I would appeciate any help.

I had the exact same problem as you. I spent days looking through
groups like these for answers, and all I got was the same generic
suggestions, some of which it seems you have already tried.

Unfortunately, my solution was to reinstall WinXP Pro after people ran
out of suggestions and no MicroSoft support articles resolved the
issue.

no need to reinstall XP Pro. On the XP machine that you cannot access
create a folder and share it. Select OK and then go back to Sharing and
Security and click the do not share radio button. Click Ok.

You should be able to access this machine across the network now. If
you are prompted for a password you may have to make some changes to
the local computer policy. Let me know if this occurs and I can walk
you through but I think the above steps will take care of the problem.

Do Not Reinstall!!!!!! There is an easier way to fix this problem..

I created a folder, and shared it (please note that i already have
another folder that is shared). THen i went back and removed the
sharing (first on one, then on both). The overall issue still exists.
PC cannot be accessed from other machine, but it can access all other
machines.

I have to say that I have exactly the same issue.

I can see the machine and it's shared directories from the others on the
network, but I just can't access it.
I too did a new XP install, and that didn't sort anything, so I am starting
to think that it's to do with the Wireless part of the network.
In my case, the two wireless connected machines can't access the
non-wireless machine, although it works 100% ok the other way around.
(ie the wired PC can access the two wireless machines perfectly, but not the
other way around)

Are you prompted for alternate credentials? If so you may have to
change your local computer policy to classic network access instead of
guest only.

I have spent the weekend fighting unsuccessfully against a very similar
problem.
I have reduced the network to 2 x XP home edition systems -both connected to
a router/adsl link.
Both machines access the internet OK.

Machine 1 can see Machine 2 and its shared resources (Printer, desktop etc.)
Machine 2 Windows:- Explorer/My network Places/Entire Network/Microsoft
Windows Network/Groupname/PCone Click! get message "//PCone is not
accessible. You might not have permission to access this network resource.
Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access
permissions"

At the moment I am running both machines without firewalls, I have run the
network wizard on both, I have done many other checks to make sure that both
systems have the same settings. Still have the problem, but less hair now.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Make sure you have the classic sharing security model enabled. In your
local computer security policy you probably have Guest Only enabled and
if you have the guest account disabled (which i would recommend) you
will recieve the error above. To change this to the Classic model open
your local computer security policy by running gpedit.msc. Then browse
to Computer Configuration, Windows Settings, Local Policies, Security
Options. In the right pane find "Network Access: Sharing and security
model for local accounts" Change this from guest only to Classic.
