We have a small network of 8 machines, all running xp-pro. I recently added
a new 300GB drive (NTFS). I added a folder and have set this folder to be
shared among the network. In Performance& Maintainance/Computer
Management/Disk Management I can see the new volume. When I right click and
go to properties everything indicates this device is working properly. The
sharing tab is checked to share the folder as M$. When I go to any of the
other workstations. I cannot see this drive. I have restarted the "server"
machine with no change in access. When I go to a station and click
run/browse/ and navigate to machine, the new drive/folder doesn't show up. I
have never had this problem before. Any suggestions?

Shares whose names end on "$" are invisible.

Thanks for the quick answer. Next qusetion is how do I remove the $ in the
share name. I use the Change Drive Letter utility to assign a common drive
but the $ is embedded in the process. How do I get rid of it. On that same
subject, when I go to properties and select the Sharing tab, why does it
refer to "Share this folder" and not drive. Very illogical

Just click the "New Share" button, then specify a suitable
share name that does not end in "$".

Changing the drive letter has nothing to do with file
sharing.

Shares are always linked to folders, never to drives.
Nothing illogical here!

Another quick solution to this is mapping the drive. When you do that,
it basically treats the shared folder or drive like a local drive
inside that computer.

Do this on all the computers that you want to have access to the new
hard drive you have installed.

-Right click My Computer --> Explore
-Tools --> Map Network Drive
-Choose drive letter to use
-Type in the UNC path (\\servername\sharedfolder)

Once completed, you can go into My Computer and you should be able to
see a new drive resembling the network share on the 300GB drive. Peace

Thanks
I did set the new share and it works properly. Also made the mistake of
thinking that EVERYONE is not the same as \\servername\users. Responses like
yours is what makes this such a great forum. Thanks again
