Hi,

For the past few weeks I have not been able to access the
Investor's Business Daily (IBD) website. The problem exists on
both computers I use - both XP Pro SP3. Internet Explorer 8 and
FireFox both time out. Chrome can almost get me there but reads
part of their PDF electronic copy then hangs - same place each
time. No other website is affected. There no problems
previously. IBD tech staff could offer no solution.

That it occured at the same time on both computers and is
independent of browser makes me wonder if a software update did
something - they are set up similarly and kept updated.
Otherwise, I am at a loss. Any other IBD subscribers here?

Start:Programs:Accessories:Command Prompt

Type in:

nslookup investors.com

and check to see if you get an IP address for it. (I see 63.71.211.170)

If you use this command

tracert investors.com

that shows all the routers between you and the web site. Right now,
that command shows there are about 15 hops in the path, and the trace
does complete. Each person doing that test, will see a different number
of hops.

The web site is advertising heavy, and the web page makes a lot of
references to things like doubleclick.net and the like. Some web
pages are designed not to render, until all the advertising has been
detected to be downloaded to the user's browser. In some cases,
it will be an associated web site, which is holding up the works.

You need to find a web page on the site, that isn't wired up that
way, to test it. This is as about lightweight a page as I can find.

If you're viewing the PDF (using the browser plugin that allows opening
a PDF in the browser window), you should instead try downloading the PDF
entirely to your disk, then open the file in Acrobat Reader and see if you
can scroll all the way through it.

Our third XP (Home) based PC also couldn't access. I popped in
the orignal drive with Vista into my laptop and was able to
access Inverstors.com. An old laptop running Windows ME also
could access the main page but was too outdated to do much else.
The problem seems cofined to the XP computers. I set the
default to "magic papper" (or whatever it is called) see if that
would have and effect. Now I don't remember how to get back to
PDF mode. I did it once and it was tricky. I have a Windows-7
based box on order. I'll try it when its up.
