Whenever I try to access the net using IE6 I get the
following message: Internet Explorer has encountered a
problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the
inconvenience. I have downloaded the various virus
patches from Microsoft and scanned for viruses, none are
present. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem? I
would be very pleased to hear from you

You need to inspect what plugins/Browser Helper Objects are loaded and causing the problem.

1. Click Start, Run, type Control Inetcpl.cpl.
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. Under Browsing, click to clear the Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restart) check box.
4. Restart Internet Explorer.

If disabling 3rd party extensions solves the problem, the problem is with a malware Browser Helper Object [BHO]. Use ToolbarCop and spot the malware BHO causing the problem.
