I Have a problem I have been trying to get Internet explorer to run on
my computer for over a year now it used to work ok but while doing a
an automatic Microsoft update to some programs and I have a power
outage which I believe scrambled or lost a file or two and the ie
program has not worked for over a year now no matter what adjustments
I have made to the Internet explorer settings I sat here for months
changing one setting at a time going back and changing another I did
the same for my anti virus software also did the same to my zone
control firewall...
I have even disabled (removed) my zone alarm and my anti virus and my
anti spy ware so the problem is with XP or ie 7 and 8 tried both to no
avail
now here is where I require some information some one told me if I
have a missing Microsoft file say an XP file dll or what ever could
put my XP disk in and do a "repair"
but I am not sure how to do this I am worried it might go
ahead and erase and format the hard drive and I have about three
hundred gigs of data I don't want to lose. So is it possible to do a
repair this guy seemed to think that in the repair mode it would just
replace any missing files and leave any files that are newer than the
ones on the disc is this true if so how do I do repair on my system I
would really appreciate some help here cos I don't even know if I'm in
the right news group I saw ie8 I haven't got a clue what an leak is
please help if you can I have read everything I can find but have not
found any one with this problem I have also removed all traces of IE
and tried reinstalling IE 6. IE7. IE8 none will work of course I
removed each one and rebooted before trying the next if I go to
program access and defaults/add remove windows components it just
loads up IE with a black screen there is some thing very wrong here
please help if you can I'm desperate

TIA

Silver

I am using firefox and thunderbird they are brilliant pieces of
software but I have a share portfolio program that uses IE Internet
libraries to update my forex and news sections of the software it will
update my ticker and charts because they don't use the IE libraries if
I want my share program to work properly I must have a functioning IE
program setup on my computer and I haven't had that for over a year
and believe me I really have tried every thing I could possible think
of as I said earlier I have been working on this problem for over a
year I suspect I'll have to pay some expert 3 or 4 hundred dollars to
come to my house click on something I forgot was there like the bios
ohh crap I hate getting old I think I left half my brain at the dry
cleaners or summat.
thanks for the reply though mate...
