i had to abort the installation of windows xp because of errors (my cd is a
bit scratched).

since this i am unable to get into anything. the set up reached the stage
where files were being loaded (after format etc) but now when i start all i
get is the first part of my post screen and then a black screen with a
blinking cursor.

i have tried to restore cmos by moving the jumper and taking out the battery
and i have disconnected all my drives, restarted and then reconnected them
again but i still get the cursor can go no further.

also in addition, as it displays the bios screen it attempts to access the
floppy drive and there is some fdd activity before the black screen is
displayed. once the fdd is accessed, the floppy light stays on and won't go
off...


p.s, the floppy cables are definately the right way around, they have not
been moved.
