cannot access favorites folder

Hi,

I have an asus netbook running XP with SP3
and IE explorer 8.0.6001.18702.

Recently I noticed that I cannot access
my favorites folders when in IE.

I can find the actual folders in windows
explorer and double
click on the links, and they will open
up in IE.

When I try to save a new favorite into
the favorite folder, the pop up window
does not allow me to pull down the favorite
folder subfolders. It just stays on the
favorite folder. There is a little star
near the word 'favorite'.

When I exit IE, any favorite I have saved
to the 'favorite' folder disappears upon
reopening IE. If I try to create a folder
in the favorite folder in IE that already
exists, it will say 'cannot create folder
that already exists', but, I cannot access
that folder from that same pop up box.
It only displays the 'star' and the favorite
folder.

I've looked around and found some registry
ideas, but did not want to do that until I
got some more feedback. Any clues?

Thanks,

itchy

You could take the nuclear option ....
Tools > internet options > Advanced > reset > apply > ok

"
The Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature restores the following items to
their default settings:
.. Home pages
.. Search scopes
.. Browsing history
.. Form data
.. Passwords
.. Appearance settings
.. Toolbars
.. ActiveX controls
Additionally, the Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature disables all
add-ins. However, it does not remove the add-ins.

Thx for the suggestion, but did not work. IE simply will not 'find'
the
favorite folder anymore while IE is running, yet the folders *are
there in windows explorer. Probably was one of those updates
that screwed it up.

Try a system restore point since before the problem started?

I looked up some dates of the saved favorites, and chose a date
prior to that, and restored, but to no avail. Weird. I guess it
is some sort of IE registry thing.
