Hi,

I have a fresh installation of Win Xp Home edition on my computer. I
need to make some changes to the router/dsl ( zyxel prestige 600
series). I enter the recommended url to acess it:

http://192.168.1.1 but nothing happens !!!

Any ideas?

cheers,

//mikael

I had a Zyxel 643 a few years back and I remember access to the
configuration menus using a browser was unreliable and very limited. To
get to the lower level menus you must use a serial cable attached
between the console port on the back of the router and a serial port on
the client computer. Then start a Hyperterminal session (Start-All
Programs-Accessories-Communications-Hyperterminal) and you will be
prompted for the router password.

Your router may be configured with a different scheme ie. 10.10.1.1 or
192.168.0.1. To figure out what scheme it is set up to you need to go to:
Start > Run > type "cmd" (no quotes) > click ok > in the command prompt
window type in "ipconfig /all" (again no quotes and a space between ipconfig
and /all) > what is your dhcp server ip address, it should be the address
needed to log into the control console. If it is a 169.x.x.x then more than
likely you are not getting connection to the router which may mean you need a
winsock fix or your router needs resetting by unplugging the power cord for
10 seconds and plugging it back in. Here is where you can get the winsock
fix utility.

Winsock XP Fix 1.2

Also Zyxel has good customer support if nothing here helps you. You can
call them up to get some more information. We resale Zyxel products so I've
called them multiple times they are good and curtious. Good Luck.

One More thing if you have a fresh install of windows xp have you loaded all
your drivers? If not then your ethernet NIC Driver may not be loaded and
that may be why it won't access the url. To check go to start > Control
panel > Performance and Maintanence > System > Hardware Tab > Device Manager
> look for any yellow exclamation marks or red X's in there for uninstalled

or disabled device drivers. Good Luck.
