"Meths" is Methylated Spirits or Methyl Alcohol, in it's natural state it is
clear.
The purple colour is an additive that is used to attempt to make the alcohol
unfit to drink since it is a serious poison.
Whether the additive is bad for printheads I am not sure but I would recommend
Isopropyl alcohol because this has no additives.
There are other liquids and techniques that may help, ask the folk at
http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/index.php for their advice.
I assume you have run 2 or 3 head cleaning cycles.
You say it is a year old, is it just in or just out of warranty? If just in
then the head should be covered under warranty.
