I need help!!, this is my first posting, I hope I’m doing it correctly.

PROBLEM;
Word default mail handler!!!!!, I can’t send a word document or excel
document through word with outlook express to a recipient, the file, and send
to mail recipient is shaded out and will not function. When I click mail
recipient as attachment it brings up a window for me to Choose Profile in MS
outlook.

***I can r/click on the document, send to, mail recipient and works
correctly bringing up the email window in outlook express.

I am running Windows xp home edition, and was running MS Office 97, all
worked well, including being able to email from word with outlook express.

I uninstalled MS office 97, and installed MS Office XP Pro 2002 version, all
works well except I can’t email a doc using Outlook express.

I can not find how to change the MS Outlook from being Words default mail
hander.

**On the file menu, and on the top bar the sent to “mail recipient” is
shaded out and can not select it.

**I use MS Outlook express as my email handler.

I have checked;
**Internet explorer, programs, HTML editor is Word, email is set for Outlook
express
**Outlook Express is set as default mail handler.
**I have already installed and un-installed MS Office, no help!!
** Have checked WIN.INI mail in reg. string values and they are correct

Anyone have a idea, how to get word and excel to use outlook express as the
mail handler for document,

Thanks,

Tommy

Graham thanks so much, but I had already checked that, but I when back and
did it again, but no help!!!

**In word if I pull up a doc., and want to email, the mail recipent button
and field on the top bar and in the file menu is shaped out and can not
select...........however I can select mail recipent as
atttachment.........when I click on this, a window comes up from outlook
select profile......that is as far as I can get.

I know word is pulling up outlook as the default mail handler, but can find
how to change it to outlook express

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks Tommy

It seems that Outlook is still the default e-mail handler on your system,
presumably attributable to a registry conflict.
Ok, let's approach this from another direction
In Outlook Express > Tools > Options > General - make this application the
default e-mail handler.
In Outlook > Tools > Options > Other - Uncheck make Outlook the default
program for e-mail.
Close all Office applications. Then see
http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm
From the original Office installation disc, re-run setup and repair the
installation.

Hello, I followed the process, all when well without any problems, performed
each step, but no help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Word still has the same problem:
**if I pull up a doc., and want to email, the "mail recipient"
button on the top bar and in the file menu the "mail recipent" is shaped out
and can not select...........however I can select "mail recipient as
attachment" on the top button or on the file menu.........when I click on
this, a window comes up from outlook choose profile......that is as far as I
can get.

**If I click on open in word the window closes up to select a doc. if I
r/click on a doc., sent to "mail recident" it brings up outlook express and
words fine.

I'm sorry I have such a hard issue to fix

This is not a Word issue. Word has no ability to send e-mails. It does so
only through the installed email application.

See http://tips.pjmsn.me.uk/t0002.htm with relation to the required ini and
registry entries.

See also http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/.../oerepair.mspx

If you are not using Outlook and have no profile setup in that application,
you will not be able to select one in order to use that application either.

Hello, I checked all of the WIN.INI files and the Mail text value was there,
I also checked the registry in Windows messaging subsystem and it was also
there.

I have laptop with all the same programs OS etc....and word email with
outlook express very well..........so at this point I when to the windows
messaging subsytem and compared both computers the laptop and the main
computer of the key etc....

I found on the main computer a applications (it had only one key marked
deflaut) folder above the MSMAPIAPPS FOLDER, I delete it.............then I
checked the the MSMAIAPPS FOLDER keys on both computers and found that the
main computer (the problem computer) had several more keys and values than
the laptop. So I though since the laptop works well and having all the same
programs, I would delete the keys that the laptop did not have, there wer
several keys as; CMC=1 with a value data microsoft outlok, MAPI.DLL, MAPI=1,
mapi32.dll, MAPIX=1, MAPIXVER=1.0.0.1, new valve#1

I shut down and restarted, and tryed to email from word and quess waht it
worked great........I tryed it several times and each time it worked great
and the buttons are not shaded out............

So I'm set and the problem is fixed..............I would like to thank you
for all you help and time.
Again thanks, Tommy
