PROBLEM:

A Toshiba Laptop with Home Edition: It lost the Volume control (NO SOUND)
after uninstalling a multimedia program. While trying to reload the volume
Control, Windows Home Edition was asking for its Installation CD. I don't
have that CD. However, I have a Windows XP Pro (FULL) CD that I use on my
desktop PC.

QUESTION:

(1) Can I use a Windows XP Pro (FULL) CD to install drivers or components
that Windows Home Edition requests?

(2) If I can, is it also possible to copy the folder i386, from Windows Pro
CD, onto Toshiba's hard drive and have the Windows Home Edition Registry
point to it so that future requests for the install CD will automatically be
invoked, without manual intervention?

Does an i386 folder already exist in the Toshiba laptop? If so, then this
would be the place to point for the files that are needed to restore and
lost accessory. If anything, a proprietary Toshiba Windows XP CD might be
needed to do this re-install or repair, esp. since it is a laptop.
