Loaded SP2 this morning. Rebooted.

We apologize for the inconvenience but Windows did not start successfully.
A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.
Then down further in the page you have the option to pick
Safe Mode
Safe mode with networking
Safe mode with command prompt
Last known configuration

I can get into Safe Mode. Think it will help to uninstall??

Try it. You should be able to remove SP2 through the Control Panel->Add and
Remove Programs or
check here for several removal options
http://support.microsoft.com/default...t=windowsxpsp2

If need be you can remove SP2 by running a Repair Install. See here for How
To Run a Repair Install http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm

I had the same problem, except, the shut down message told me that my
display card was probably the culprit. I changed the card and everything
worked just fine.

Did it give you any indication of what software or hardware changes had been
made?

Just posting the resolution:

Uninstalled Service Pack 2 in safe mode. Worked great!!

JE, Harry, thanks for the response. JE, Not sure if she got a shut down
message.

Here's a good one, she says: "you now, I never ran these updates, then I got
a bunch of spyware problems, so now I run them because you said to, and it
blows up my computer." She wasn't mad at me, she was just pointing out the
irony.

Anyone have a good XP SP2 preparations link I can send her before we attempt
the update again? I've seen so many. Looking for an opinion...

Thank you
