What I would like to do is sort my inbox by the category of the sender. If
my sender is in my Contacts already with a category, can I set it up to sort
by that category?

thanks in advance!

no. you'd have to apply the category to each message to sort by category.

from the menu bar - view / arrange by / current view / by category
(that's outlook 2003, not sure if it's the same in whatever you have)

Can't you use the Rules Wizard to direct mail from a specified person to
a specified folder?

I am not an Outlook user and my version is Outlook 2000. You can do this
using Message Rules in Outlook Express but the Outlook Rules Wizard is
somewhat different

Since the user doesn't want to move the incoming e-mails from the Inbox
folder but just wants to sort the Inbox folder by category, it seems the
user could just add the Category column to the Inbox folder and sort on
it. A rule would be needed to assign a category for the incoming
e-mails. I doubt the category for an e-mail is not the same as the
category for a contact. I've never bothered assigning categories to
contacts, just to e-mails but I doubt the Category field in the record
for a contact is linked to the Category field for an e-mail record.
