i get lots of power point slide shows sent to me via email. Is there a way to
save the images to my document s so i can use them on my desktop?

Right click on image and "save as picture"
You can also save the whole show as a web page (html) - this will produce a
folder of dependant files which will include all pictures / sounds etc.

i have tried to right click and save but it only gives instructions to
continue the slide show........next, previous..........end show etc. Dont
know any other way i could save them

Do you have PowerPoint? Or are you using PowerPoint Viewer?
If you have PowerPoint, then probably the file is saved as a PowerPoint
Show. Open PowerPoint first, then look for the file. Next, follow John's
instruction.

If you are using PowerPoint Viewer, then you will need to do a print screen
during the slide show, then open Paint program (Start > Programs >
Accessories > Paint) and paste the screen onto Paint.
