Someone deleted a few folders of pictures I had on my computer and then
emptied my resycle bin. Is there any way possible to retrieve these files
somehow??

Hi Angela,

Don't save anything and your chances to recover some of them might be
good. Have a look at some of your options here:
http://www.google.com/#hl=en&q=recov...fp=Q9hKAq0-8-0

The paid versions may or may not work better than a free utility.

You have two options:
a) Use one of the numerous undelete tools you find on Google.
b) Retrieve the files from your backup medium.

About option a): You will increase your chances of a successful recovery if
you turn off your PC right now, remove its disk and connect it as a slave
disk to some other PC that has the undelete tool installed. Every operation
you perform on your own PC reduces your chances of a successful recovery.

About option b): If you don't have a backup process in place then this is a
good time to review your backup philosophy. Important files must never be
stored on a single medium only. Two independent storage media is the
absolute minimum.

The answer is maybe, but it becomes closer to no, the more you use your PC.
Shut it off, and leave it off.

Find another XP PC with enough drive space, remove the drive from yours and
attach it to the other system. Use data recovery software to try to
recover the files. If that dosen't work, the next step is a recovery
service. Expect the bill there to start at $1K.

If you continue to use your machine, its normal use will overwrite the
deleted files, and you won't get them back.

This is the best file recovery tool, paid or free:

Recuva 900 KB (Freeware)
Don't get the "Recuva - Installer" one, it has a bundled addware toolbar.
Instead, get the "Recuva - Slim Installer" one from here:
