How can you monitor installs?

Anyone know of any applications that monitor software installs and show you
what the application did during install - like registry entries
added/changed and DLLs registered and which files were written to the
systema and where?

I'd like to take some applications and use a packer to create single EXE
that will run with no installation needed. I'd like to be able to run the
apps from a CD where possible. To do this, I need to monitor the
installation of the apps in order to create my packed EXEs.

Thanks for your help...

Thanks Gary!

I did find something called InstallMonitor at
http://www.prismmicrosys.com/install...itor-index.htm that
is only $49. I figure it's worth a shot (there's also a 14 day fully
functional trial).

If it does what it says, it will be perfect for what I need.

Joe,
You might also want to look at FileMon and RegMon utilities at
http://www.sysinternals.com
