I have a very cool Sony hard disc hi-fi unit, it came with software which I
just cannot find. I have the software on my pc and now wish to sell the unit.

If I gave the new owner a copy of the folder on my pc that contained the
software would it work?

Originally it was installed from disc

BTW the software is m-crew

It may or may not. Depends upon what the installation actually did when
program was installed.

There may be required registry entries have to be there for software to
work. One can use Regedit and try and export the pertinent entries but one
cannot be sure they found them all.

There may be files outside the software's installation folder, typically
some files get placed in the Windows\System(32) folder also but that's not
inclusive as there's also often "Common Files" folder(s).

There may also be some runtime environment that may need to be installed,
e.g. .NET, Visual Basic runtime, Borland's products runtime library to name
a few. That may get installed almost anywhere.

Only way to find out is to actually try it. Make a copy of the folder and
take it to another pc, copy it over (don't forget to remove any "Write
Protected" on folder and files after copy) and try it.

You may be able to get the latest program file from the Sony/m-crew website:

http://www.sony.net/Products/homeaud...rew/index.html

If the full program install for your particular unit is not available,
you can probably contact Sony directly and find out if your solution
might work.
