How can you deactivate the "Opening Mail Attachment" window?

If you get a lot of JPEG attachments in an e-mail it is annoying to see the
same alert message window for every photo. So how can you turn it off -
because the "Always ask before opening this type of file" check box is gray
and I cannot uncheck it.
