Can XP make a logfile of hardware "events"?

It seems that if XP can detect if a USB device is added, then maybe it
has the ability to log events or exceptions that are caused by faulty
hardware.

So far, and we know how that goes,[:-)] disconnecting the USB mouse
and replacing it with the "Old Faithful" style mouse has resulting in
no irritating "beeping" or "mouse LED shutdown" behavior.
