This question is to anyone who has an LCD computer monitor
capable of displaying HDTV. Can some/most LCD monitors
display HDTV, with the right set-up?

I know from my documentation that the X800-XT can send HDTV
signals to an HD "TV" using the right connectors (I think
the YPrPb connectors). But what if you want to watch HDTV on
your computer's LCD, or an HDTV-capable COMPUTER LCD?

Here's my set up:
Just ordered a Dell 2405FPW, which is a 24" wide-screen LCD
and runs at a standard 1920 x 1200 resolution. It won't
arrive until next week. This will function as my primary
computer display. Have an ATI All-In-Wonder X800-XT
graphics card, and currently have my cable TV antenna
connected to it.

My TV is not HDTV capable, but I think the Dell LCD is. I
can upgrade to Digital Cable which provides some HDTV
channels/signals, and/or get an Indoor HDTV antenna. BUT,
before I do, would like to know:

If I send an HDTV signal via the cable box (or from an
indoor HDTV antenna), can THIS be connected to the ATI card?
Is it done using a standard cable input, or a special one
like COMPOSITE/YPrPb connector?

Then if I use the DVI connection from the X800-XT card to
the Dell LCD, will it display HDTV on the COMPUTER'S LCD?

Or CAN it, by making any adjustments? I've heard it's
possible, but haven't confirmed this from anyone who has
done it, and if so, how they did it. Not sure if it's
possible, if it's a big deal, or a no-brainer.

Also, my SoundBlaster Audigy 2 card has a Dolby Digital 5.1
decoder built in, and an S/PDIF connection on it for the sound.

There's nothing magic about HDTV, it's just 1920x1280 or 1280x720.

If it can go 1920x1200 then it can display 1920x1080 either putting black
bars at top and bottom or stretching vertically.

In general no. No ATI video board has an HD input.

If you want to display HD from a cable box, you have to connect the cable
box directly to the display or you need to buy a few thousand bucks worth
of pro video capture equipment. It _may_ be possible to view unencrypted
HD channels using a Dvico Fusion board or other TV tuner board that
supports QAM, but that depends on how your cable company operates.

Yes. Standard cable. The HDTV aspect of the x800xt is, I believe to output
games to a highdef TV. I myself have the x800xt with the output cable from a
motorola HD capable digital converter (provided by cable co.) connected
directly to it (leaving the AIW TV on channel 3 & using the cable converter
to change channels).

I have subscribed to HD service, which provides about 11 HD channels. I also
connect to my 2405fpw via component cables (came with the motorola) to the
2405 component inputs. This is the best picture quality attainable with this
monitor, and it is pretty good. Real digital channels (starz, etc.) don't
look too bad on it full screen. Regular analog TV through the AIW, however,
looks pretty pitiful (full screen).

So really, I have two "TVs" on my system. One using the component input from
the HD cable box (with audio sent to an input on my speaker system) and one
with the ATI card tuner. I use both depending on the moment.

DVDs look pretty good as well.
