I am writing a play and I would like to be able to set each actor a separate
layer and then be able to select to edit and print that layer only. This
would help checking actor consistency and eventually part learning and enable
me to include stage directions which can be viewed or printed when needed and
hidden when not.

Or is there another way of achieving this. I can not see anything obvious
in Help.

I apologise if I have overlooked something obvious.

Word doesn't recognize the concept of "layers" for its text. Closest thing that
occurs to me would be to set up a "base style" for each "layer" you want to
have. Then create styles on top of the "base style" for each type of paragraph
formatting you want to support. In order to hide a "layer" set the Hidden
property for the base style's font. That should cascade through all the styles
linked to that base style, hiding that "layer".
