Word doesn't recognize the concept of "layers" for its text. Closest thing that
occurs to me would be to set up a "base style" for each "layer" you want to
have. Then create styles on top of the "base style" for each type of paragraph
formatting you want to support. In order to hide a "layer" set the Hidden
property for the base style's font. That should cascade through all the styles
linked to that base style, hiding that "layer".
