Can I WinZip a .PST file in order to save space?

I successfully created an Outlook Archive .PST file. Now I'd like to be able
to WinZip this to save even more space. When I went into WinZip and created
my .zip file and then attempted to Add the Archived .PST file, WinZip came
back and told me...

Warning: could not open for reading: C:\Microsoft Outlook\Archives\Archive.pst

And I was out of Outlook!

Any ideas??? Is this possible??? Or are .PST files incompatiable with WinZip.

Any help and suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for your review and hopeful for a reply.

Was Outlook closed when you attempted to do this?

If space is of a concern use NTFS (Windows XP file system) compression
instead.

Archive files are active. If you have configured Outlook to use autoarchive
and then do not disable archiving afterward, Outlook will create a new one the
next time autoarchive runs.

Outlook cannot access PSTs in a zip file.

Make sure that Outlook is *really* closed; check with Task Manager
(Processes tab). But be aware that Outlook cannot use the zipped archive
file - you'll need to close it first from within Outlook.
