Yes, you can install WinXP Pro over WinXP Home, but....
1) Your WinXP Pro disk from the other system must be a retail version, if it
came preinstalled on the other system, then it is probably locked to that
system and cannot be installed on any other machine.
2) A WinXP Pro retail disk may not contain all needed drivers for the
notebook. Check with Compaq that needed supporting drivers can be
downloaded.
3) Compaq may very well offer a customized version of WinXP Pro that *is*
supported for their machine, you should ask them.
4) Changing the preinstalled operating system on most systems usually voids
the warranty.
