Hello:

I am using a cable modem. I just installed a virus protection program that
continually runs. My internet connection has been significantly slower
lately. I am not sure if it is a coincidence. I do have other issues with
my computer. I am also running a firewall. Both programs have an icon in my
tray that show they are always active doing things. Could either of these
slow the connection?

Hi Kevin,

My mom has that problem alot and we have to dump her cookies and temp file
like every other day to get it going as quickly as she likes it. We were
told by the cable company that because there are so many things pinging your
computer firewall all the time that sometimes it just runs slower with the
firewall on. I don't know if I would believe that or not but that's the info
I have. Hope it helps.

If you are using a slower computer the extra process power required by the
anti-virus program and firewall may slow your connection since they have to
process all the information coming and going through your connection.

To verify the problem, try disabling them one at a time and see if it helps.
