Is it possible to have half my screen for the calander and half for mail?

No. If you use Outlook 2007, you can use the to-do bar to show appointments
and mail, but it's not the true calendar.

Open your Inbox. Right-click Calendar and choose Open in New Window. Tile
the two windows so one is on the left and the other on the right.
