Can I view Internet packets?

Looking for shareware/freeware that will display the incoming packets for my
network adapter.

For example, if you display Network Connections (from the Control Panel) and
right-click Local Area Connection you can select STATUS from the menu.

This will display received packets in the Activity section.

What I am looking for is software that will display these packets in ASCII
format.

It seems you are looking for what is generally referred to as a "packet
sniffer". There are many of these available and a search will find them
for you. An example is the free 'Plastic Sniffer'
(http://www.plasticwater.com/PlasticSniffer/).

Most of these use the free WinPCap capture driver. I'd stick with the
stable version and avoid the alphas that are usually available. The
driver can be downloaded here:
