Hello,

I am most frustrated! I am trying to build a simple family web site
using FP 2003 and using my home pc as both ends. I have a static IP so do
not need a domain or hosting service. I have the following MS apps.
OS=XPMCE, IIS=5.1, Office XP Pro, and just recently installed FP 2003.
Everything is going fine until I ran into the simple limitations of FP
without server extensions / sharepoint team services. What is a website
unless I can allow simple interaction with family members such as discussion
threads or uploading files to share pictures etc.... It turns out that
FPSE2000 came with my OS which of course I need to upgrade so I download
FPSE2002 to at least get a few more items of use such as a page counter.
When I install FPSE2002 (fpse02_x86_eng) I get a message at the end of the
install that "The server administration programs and the server extensions on
the web server are not compatible. The administration program is too old to
use with this server". The installation then tells you installatioin is
complete. The IIS properties still only show the FPSE2000 tab (even after I
uninstall FPSE2000) and not the FPSE2002 tab and, of course, none of the
components work supported by FPSE2002. It appears that some components of
the latest sharepoint services is installed as I now find the sharepoint
administrator which does not work. It seems my answer is sharepoint team
services since I do not have Windows server 2003 (nor wish to pay for it for
a small website). The Microsoft Website claims you can run sharepoint team
services with FP2003 and without Windows server 2003

correct? If so where can you download sharepoint team services. If not why
did Microsoft leave this large gap for those not running server 2003 and

In order to use frontpage extension on your computer you need at least
Windows XP Professional and you have to install Microsoft Internet
Information Service which is build in, but is not installed by default. You
need to install IIS manually. I recommend not to use both FPSE2000 and
FPSE2002 together, so if you have installed both uninstall one of them
preferably FPSE2000 and use just FPSE2002. If you have trouble configuring
fp extension unistall it and install again. Unfortunalelly in order to use
Microsoft SharePoint Services you need access to Microsoft Server. Once you
install and configure fp extension you can use FrontPage 2003 to create many
web sites, like discussion, datainterface, search page and so on. FrontPage
2003 has cool templates that you can use to create those kind of files and
customise according to your needs.

Thanks so much for your response. I have XP media center which I believe
should work. If not that is my dead end. I have installed IIS 5.1 already
using add/remove programs and my website is working just not all that I want.
I originally also installed FPSE2000 by the same method but uninstalled it
before downloading and installing FPSE2002. I have tried to re-install and
repair FPSE2002 many times. Each time I get the same error message mentioned
in my first post. I was hoping to use sharepoint "team" services since I do
not have server 2003. I have created a discussion web as a subweb of my
existing web and it works but gives me an error message when trying to post
from the form. Thanks again and I sincerely appreciate any further thoughts
you may have.

It is not easy to resolve your problem. I didn't use Media Center so I don't
know problems that may happen. However if Media Center has IIS 5.1 it should
work. Try to uninstall and install the IIS with fp extension again and see
what happen. To access fp server extension administration web site click on
server extension tab in IIS web site proberties dialog box(if you see this
tab)or you should see the Microsoft SharePoint Administration icon in
Administrative tools. At least I see it. If you still experience problems
you may have problems with permissions. To access permission dialog box go
to IIS MMC and right click propertieson your web site, directory security
tab click edit under Anonymous access and authentication control and select
Intergrated Windows authentication check box. Sometimes it is a good idea to
wait a couple days and if you are lucky your problem is gone.

FP2002 extensions are configured and administered by the Microsoft
Sharepoint Administrator, which you have already found.

Open the Sharepoint Administrator, and extend and configure the
default website.

Ron,

Thanks for the reply. Well, I got access to the administrator by changing
my permission settings in the IIS mmc. However, when I try to access my
virtual server settings, which is listed, to see if FPSE2002 is extended to
my website I get the file not found page with the following :

http://my_url/_vti_bin/_vti_adm/fpad...e=webadmin.htm

Is the webadmin.htm page supposed to be in a certain location it isn't? I
tried puttinging it in the following places to no avail.

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server
extensions\40\_vti_bin\_vti_adm

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server
extensions\50\isapi\_vti_adm

I must be caught in somewhere between FPSE2000 and 2002. Most frustrating.
However, one thing is for certain, FPSE2002 must not be extended to my local
server yet because I still cannot get my discussion subweb to work!
