Can I use Phaser 850 ink in an 840?

I have an 840 printer, and a large amount of 850 ink sticks. They are
physically different so that they won't fit in the slots, but I ground
off the "keys" on the edge so they drop in. Is there any difference in
the ink composition that would cause problems? Seems to print the same.

Xerox are bound to say no. I'd be surprised if there is much
difference, I suppose the answer on whether to risk it depends on how
much the stock of ink you have is worth and how much is the printer
worth. Alternatively you could try flogging them.

I have an 8200 and wonder about the 860 inks, since there is a fair
overlap between the two machines, or at least they both take the same
maintenance roller
