Is seems there are a few advantages of RDP 5.1 that I could really
use:

1) Audio support

2) Drive mapping

3) (I think) I can put a server running it into 'stand by' -- which I
can't seem to do with RDP 5

Is there any way to upgrade a Win2000 Server to RDP 5.1 (without the
full Win2003 shebang).

Thanks Vera, bummer. I take it that I can't even pay to get RDP 5.1 on
Win2000?

Am I correct that the Win2003 Terminal Server behaves like the WinXP
Terminal Server when it comes to audio, drive mapping, and stand-by?

btw, do you happen to know if there is any way to have Terminal Server
installed on a Win2000 Server that you can still put into stand-by?

No, it's not a matter of money or licenses, there is simply no way
of upgrading only rdp, you need to upgrade the whole OS to get rdp
5.1 on the server.

Ah, sorry -- "suspend" would be another term. When I install Terminal
Services on my Win2000 server, I lose the option to suspend that
server.

Can a Win2003 server with Remote Desktop for Administration be put
into suspend? (unlike Win2000)

I'm still unsure what you mean. Do you mean the cluster control
command "wlbs suspend"?

I've no way of testing this, but the description of suspending
cluster operations is identical in W2K and Windows 2003 help, so I
expect this to be similar.

heh, no! I'll give it another shot...

After I install Terminal Services (Remote Admin) on Win2000 I lose:

Start > Shut Down... > Stand by

And I was just wondering if Win2003 lets you keep Stand by with
Terminal Services installed.

Aaaah...... That's something I've never used. Just a curious
question: when is this a handy option? You don't use your server as a
laptop, do you :-)

Anyway, I've checked on a 2003 server with RD enabled, and it still
gives me the possibility to enable hibernating in the Power Options
applet. Have not actually tested to hibernate the server, don't think
my users would appreciate that and I don't have a test 2003 server
available at the moment.

Believe it or not, but I do run Server on my laptop, but that's
another story altogether...

Note that suspend *is* available on servers that don't have Terminal
installed. Regarding the loss of suspend with Terminal Services, in
the KB Microsoft says that nobody would ever want to put a Terminal
Server into stand-by, but that doesn't really make sense since the
same logic applies to a server in general.

In my case, this server is a developmental box, rather than a
production box. When I leave for the night, I sometimes want to
suspend it...
